JULY 28

Monday

It has been 28 years since the Mt. St. Helens volcano eruption. Trees have regrown and been harvested(1),but the crater area is still very raw and foreboding(2). That is not steam you see, it is ash blowing around on the mountain top! There has not been any seismic activity , but they monitor constantly.
If you are ever in the Portland/Seattle area, a visit to the Johnston Ridge Observatory is a must!
On a much lighter note...Catie liked the campsite!!(3)

It's a good thing that I don't want to censor you by deleting photos that may reflect poorly on my sanity, etc....

#2-It may be quiet now but I still wouldn't build my cabin there. I wonder what land values are?
#3-Catie looks like she's had too much fruit of the vine.

I had been to Johnston Visitor Center on my own in 1997. I still remember that name after him when he yelled over his radio, "Vancouver, Vancouver, that is it!!!" just before that volcano killed him.

I think UD's 'captions' might be one of the best parts of this blog.
