Mt. Rushmore, in the Black Hills of South Dakota is one of our nations symbols of Democracy.(1)
The story of its design and completion is fascinating.
We toured the entire monument and then stayed for the evening program. Patriotic music, the entire audience reciting the pledge of allegiance, and finally, the lighting of the monument.

Kind of makes you want to see the movie, ""National Treasure, The Book of Secrets" all over again, doesn't it?
Where is Alfred E. Newman's head? I am appalled that at a national monument like this that they haven't cleaned up all the trash Borglund left at the bottom.
